Gepco Debuts Heavy-duty 12mm HD Hybrid Fiber SMPTE 311M Camera Cables and Cable Assemblies

LAS VEGAS, April 5, 2003 - Gepco International, Inc. is introducing its new HDC120 series, which consists of both HDC120 and HDC120P 12mm heavy-duty hybrid fiber cables for SMPTE 311M HD camera applications. Both feature an increased overall diameter, larger gage copper conductors, and Kevlar-reinforced and tube-jacketed single mode fibers for added durability.

Also available are pre-terminated cable assemblies, which use the more robust 12mm Lemo connector along with Gepco's proprietary Kellem Adapter for the ultimate in durability. Gepco's Kellem Adapter with Kellem metal strain relief substantially reduces stress from flex, pulling and twisting, greatly improving the durability of the connector and cable termination.

"The Kellem metal strain relief is really the big selling point of these cables," says Greg Hansen, vice president of sales and marketing. "Cables that can't handle wear and tear over a period of time aren't of much use to anyone. Many times working in harsh environments, users want to have confidence that their cables can get roughed up a bit and won't be easily destroyed."

Like all Gepco HDC hybrid fiber cables, the buffered coating on the fiber is a special nylon-based polymer that has three times the tensile strength as conventional coated fiber found in other hybrid fiber cables. Unlike the smaller 9.22mm size that use 4 single power conductors, the 12mm Gepco HDC120 series utilizes 2 conductors for streamlined termination and reduces the possibilities of electrical faults. In addition, the 12mm cables are available with extra-flexible or polyurethane outer jackets that are more durable and less prone to getting caught under camera tri-pods. Both HDC120 cables and the existing HDC920 series all now feature heat resistant insulation making the cables stable in high temperature environments.
