Gepco Introduces HD Fiber Optic Camera Cables
CHICAGO, April 3, 2000 - Gepco International debuts their new HDC920 and HDC920R High Definition camera cables. The 9.2mm HDC920 series are hybrid cables that utilize both optical fibers and copper conductors for digital video, power and control signals. Cables are available either in bulk or in pre-terminated assemblies with Lemo 3K series connectors. Both HDC920 and HDC920R meet or exceed the SMPTE 311M standard for hybrid fiber camera cable.
Ideal for both studio and remote applications, HDC920 has an extra-flexible, satin finish thermoplastic jacket, which makes it both extremely flexible and easy to coil. HDC920R is a riser rated version designed for use in permanent installation applications. It has a flame retardant jacket that is smooth, easy to pull through conduit, and yet surprisingly flexible. The HDC920R is UL listed Type CMR.
Two single mode 9.5 micron optical fibers are the primary components of both the HDC920 and HDC920R. These optical fibers allow for digital video signals to be transmitted with extreme accuracy and reliability over long distances. To facilitate power and camera control, both cables have four 20 gage, and two 24 gage tinned copper conductors. To increase the pulling strength, flex-life, and overall durability of the cable, the HDC920 and HDC920R utilize a steel strength member at the center of the cable core. Shielding is provided by a 95 percent tinned copper braid.
"The HDC920 is our latest product for the HDTV market." said Scott Fehl, product manager, Gepco International. "We expect the demand for this type of cable to increase dramatically over the next year. The optical fiber format reduces the size of cable and virtually eliminates concerns about maximum cable distance lengths for uncompressed HD signals."
